How did Laura find her way to Acupuncture?

I found myself in 2003, a graduate from college with a major in English Lit. and a minor in Business and without really a clue as to what I wanted to do. Working in a job i didn’t feel very passionate about I began searching inward for some meaning in my life and what exactly it was that I could contribute to society. I was very drawn to yoga, having always been encouraged to practice from my father growing up, I soon found myself back to practicing everyday. I discovered a profound clarity and peace from my practice, decided to leave a stale relationship and job, and went to live on an ashram and study yoga at a deeper level. Studying the ancient yogic texts as well as the postures and meditations expanded my view of myself in unimaginable ways. It helped me get out of my head, feel more balanced in my body and emotions, and connected me to something greater than myself.  I wanted to share this knowledge with others so I left the ashram and began teaching.

A few years later I started having pretty intense digestive issues. I saw doctors, naturopaths, GI specialists, went on several different diets, even had a colonoscopy. Nobody had found anything wrong AND recommended I go on about 7 medications. A very sensitive person to just about everything (!) I really did not want to go on medication.  A colleague of mine suggested I see her acupuncturist. I went and within 4 months of treatment all of my symptoms had gone. I never did have to go on medication and I was able to eat a normal diet again. During that 4 month time I also discovered deep pains and emotions I was holding within. I was able to work through this healing with the guide of my acupuncturist and I am 100% positive that is why my digestive issues did not return. I was so astonished at my results and feeling my health improve and life improve on such vast levels I did not hesitate to quickly enroll in acupuncture school. I felt very strongly that I wanted to help others in this invaluable way that I had been helped.

The journey I have been on so far, I can say, has been invaluable to contributing to the fulfillment I receive from my life, interactions, and career. I am so grateful for everything these medicines have done for me, guiding me to make informed and conscious decisions from the physical level to the spiritual level. I still seek treatment to guide me through various challenges I face and to reconnect me to my uniqueness and gifts. I am so grateful for this medicine in awakening me to my life purpose, consciously guiding my body and soul through a marriage, birthing my child, becoming a mother, through a divorce, and through the constant evolving process of growing and being.   I am so honored and humbled to be able to share this medicine with others. I would so much look forward to partnering with you to create healing and movement in your life as well.

Through receiving acupuncture and being trained to help and guide others I quickly noticed the profound shifts words and questions can have in awakening someone to change old habit patterns and break through into new levels of awareness, health and happiness. I had been asked many times over the years if we could have sessions of just coaching. This support and healing through talking and energy movement is incredibly invaluable. I myself used a coach to guide me in creating my business though truly it was supportive to me in all aspects of my life. I am so excited to offer coaching services and support you in this extremely special and invaluable way.

I am in so much gratitude to my teachers in all forms and would like to mention a few here: Ammachi, Swami Sivananda, Swami Vishnu-devananda, Bob Duggan, Diane Connely, Wade Lingstrom, Sharla Jacobs, Jose Silva, Ken Coscia, Christian Mickelsen, my grandfather Richard Rose, my daughter Layla Maitreya Rose Penn, my family, friends and loved ones. You have all been a constant support and fountain of wisdom, love and kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
